Caitlin Northern, LCSW

Caitlin is a seasoned therapist with over a decade of experience who is dedicated to help guide you on your journey to healing and personal growth. Caitlin specializes in helping children, adults, and families not only address issues like anxiety, depression, OCD, ADHD, behavioral problems (in children), and autism, but to find their overall path towards happiness and well-being. She holds a Master’s Degree in Clinical Social Work from Fordham University and a dual-degree in Social Work and Social and Behavioral Sciences from Seton Hall University. Her expertise extends to Child and Family Studies and Psychology, making her exceptionally well-prepared to understand and address your unique needs.

Caitlin believes in a holistic approach to therapy. She utilizes Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), the gold standard in mental health treatment, both in efficacy and speed of results, and incorporates Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help you embrace life’s challenges, develop mindfulness, and foster personal growth. For children and families, Caitlin employs Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE), building stronger family bonds and equipping parents with the tools to support their children’s emotional needs. Furthermore, she is certified in Exposure and Response Prevention Therapy (ERP), which is recognized as the most effective approach for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).  Caitlin blends these evidence-based techniques seamlessly into her practice to empower you or your child to overcome anxiety, fears, poor mood, and unhelpful/undesirable behaviors.

Therapy can sometimes feel intimidating, but Caitlin’s mission is to meet you where you are, fostering a comfortable and genuine space for open and honest conversations. She knows that change can be daunting, and she’s here to guide you through it. Together, you’ll discover effective ways to respond to life’s challenges and achieve your treatment goals.

Caitlin’s expertise extends to complex trauma and loss. She also has a deep understanding of the foster care system and attachment-related issues. Her extensive experience in case management within the child welfare system equips her to navigate school, court, and community resources. She’ll help you advocate for your needs and access the support you deserve.

Outside of her work, Caitlin loves exploring new places, discovering music, reading, and following college basketball (Go Seton Hall Pirates!). She treasures spending quality time with her family and her loyal companion, Louie the dog.
